Community Outreach & Education

The Dr. Richard S. Kerstine Vision Outreach Program

The Dr. Richard S. Kerstine Vision Outreach Program provides free screenings and lectures on a variety of vision threatening eye conditions, such as cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic eye disease and macular degeneration. With seniors and African Americans at greatest risk for certain eye diseases, early detection of these conditions can prevent vision loss.

New for 2012! I-CARE Partners Program:  This is an opportunity for your business to provide preventive eye care for your employees. Let The Cincinnati Eye Institute Foundation provide an educational lunch and learn all about EYES. We also provide onsite vision screenings for a nominal fee.  Please contact Amy Jones for a list of programs as well as pricing at 513-569-3643

Our Outreach van travels to senior centers, churches and community centers throughout the Greater Cincinnati area.

The Next Generation of Eye Care Professionals

Communities across the country face a critical doctor shortage in the specialty of ophthalmology. To help attract needed ophthalmologists to our community, The Cincinnati Eye Institute Foundation funds additional resident positions in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine. During their tenure, these residents work closely with the doctors of Cincinnati Eye Institute who teach and mentor these students. As a result, many residents have chosen to stay and practice ophthalmology in our community.

Research

To support research is to support the hope and promise that one day we will discover new cures and improved treatments for the most daunting eye diseases. The Cincinnati Eye Institute Foundation supports various areas
of research in ophthalmology. Research grants are offered in the field of ophthalmology for noteworthy projects.

Professional Education

The Cincinnati Eye Institute Foundation supports and hosts accredited continuing education courses on new technologies, advances in surgical techniques, clinical and research studies, and updates on pharmaceuticals for area optometrists to further their professional knowledge and enhance patient care.

As a resident, it was invaluable for me to work with the doctors and patients at Cincinnati Eye Institute. The mentoring relationships I developed will help me as I complete my training and fellowship program and decide where I will practice ophthalmology.”
