<image:caption>In 2008, The Cincinnati Eye Institute Foundation opened its first free adult vision clinic in the Roselawn Lutheran Church, and by the end of 2015 had served over 5,100 uninsured and low-income adults. Due to the success of the Roselawn vision clinic, CEIF decided to open a free adult vision clinic in May of 2015 within the Liz Carter Outreach Center in St. Vincent de Paul Center located in the West of End of Cincinnati. Since 2015, CEIF has opened Vision Clinics in The Good Samaritan Free Health Center, Clovernook Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired, HealthPoint Family Care in Covington, KY, Cincinnati Association for the Blind & Visually Impaired (CABVI), HealthPoint Family Care in Florence, KY and our newest location at HealthPoin Family Care in Newport KY. In 2024, CEIF opened its own Optical Store within St. Vincent de Paul. CEIF Vision Clinics have been funded through the generosity of local and national foundations, corporations, and individuals whose ongoing kindness provides financial support for the clinic operations. Kerstine, MD, who also actively volunteers in the Foundation's vision clinics. The Richard S. Kerstine Vision Outreach Program provides free vision screenings and lectures to local non-profit agencies, churches, community centers, senior, and retirement communities. The vision lectures offered cover a variety of vision-threatening eye conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic eye diseases, and macular degeneration. <image:title>Our Vision - Our Vision.</image:title>
<image:caption>Established in 2006, the mission of The Cincinnati Eye Institute Foundation is to preserve and improve sight. CEIF provides access to eye care for vulnerable and under-served populations, including the operation of free charitable eye clinics, community outreach services, support for community and professional education, and granting research funds. Creating a separate nonprofit organization was a long process that involved implementing various corporate social responsibility activities over the years at Cincinnati Eye Institute. "The decision to start a separate nonprofit organization is a bit atypical for a private eye care practice, but it was something that we felt was the right thing to do," says Michael Petersen, MD, PhD, a retina specialist and immediate past chairman of the board of directors for Cincinnati Eye Institute. "It takes the ideas of these activities to an entirely different level." The doctors at Cincinnati Eye Institute saw that more could be done to address the eye care needs of the community, and that's when they made the decision and a commitment to create CEIF. The approach is three-pronged: education, prevention, and direct eye, vision and medical care. Most importantly, it builds leverage and effective collaborations, which are essential to addressing the eye care needs of the community, a task that is too great for one organization to tackle alone. CEIF has received outstanding recognition for its services. In 2010, it was awarded the Ohio Nonprofit Excellence Award from the Ohio Association of Nonprofit Organizations, and has also received five Health Care Hero Awards from the Cincinnati Business Courier throughout its existence. — Amy Jones President and CEO</image:caption>

<image:caption>CEIF supports the education of eye care professionals at the University of Cincinnati Ophthalmology medical residents program. Communities across the country face a critical doctor shortage in the specialty of ophthalmology. To help attract needed ophthalmologists to our community, The Cincinnati Eye Institute Foundation funds additional resident positions in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine. During their tenure, these residents work closely with the doctors of Cincinnati Eye Institute who teach and mentor these students. As a result, many residents have chosen to stay and practice ophthalmology in our community.</image:caption>
